What food could be more all-American than the hamburger: hearty, honest and so damn satisfying? Just in time for that most American of holidays, the 4th of July, the travel review site TripAdvisor is out with its list of the ten best burger joints across the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
From simple diners to savvy bourbon-driven bistros, the winners are mostly in small to medium-sized towns across the Heartland, towns that don’t generally get a lot of attention from the travel press. Top honors go to Hop’s Burger Bar in Greensboro, N.C.. Other winners are as far flung as Knoxville, Tenn., Custer, S.D., Oklahoma City and Waimea, on the Big Island of Hawaii. For good measure, the ski capital of Jackson Hole, Wyo. and the music Mecca of Branson, Mo. are also in there.
