What Happens to Your Loose Change Left at TSA Checkpoints?

So you’ve been a good traveler. At the security checkpoint you’ve emptied your pockets, sent your carry-on bags, coins, shoes, coat and computer through the x-ray machine and stood still inside the scanner for the full three seconds with your arms over your head in that diamond shape while someone in another room checked you up and down for stuff you shouldn’t be taking on a plane.

After all that, you need a coffee but discover that – oof! – you left your coins in that bowl at security. There’s not enough time to go back for them – even if it was worth the effort – but now it’s stuck in your craw: what’s going to happen to my money?
