In an effort to match fares from lower-frills carriers, United Airlines announced yesterday a new, lower fare class to join its current fare classes starting next year. Yet it’s the rare airline that giveth and not taketh away, and a bunch of new restrictions will apply.
Among them, passengers opting for this lower fare option, called Basic Economy, won’t be able to choose their seats, will be last to board the plane and won’t be able to carry on more than one personal item that will fit under the seat in front of them – larger carry-ons are out.
