Inside New York City’s Moynihan Train Hall: The Future of Penn Station

The dark, dank, decrepit, dehumanizing, cramped, confusing, stinky (yes, stinky) and generally misery-inducing hellhole that is New York City’s Pennsylvania Station is finally destined for an overhaul. And by the look of it, it could be fantastic.

Under plans announced by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo last week, the station for Amtrak and Long Island Railroad trains will move across 8th Avenue to the former beaux-arts style General Post Office, also called the Farley Building. The refurbished facility will be called Moynihan Train Hall, after New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (1927-2003), who championed this concept.
