Ice Bagel, Tokyo, Japan

I am a bagel purist. Sesame, poppy seed, onion: great. Blueberries, cranberries, bananas, chocolate: for muffins.

But Japan takes ideas from overseas, tweaks them and makes them all its own. Case in point: these ice cream-filled bagels at Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Ginza district, in vanilla, mango-orange, blueberry, rich chocolate and strawberry milk flavors.

I do not imagine lox tastes good on any of them.
