In any normal year, the James Beard Awards would be the Oscars, Emmys, Tonys and Grammys of America’s restaurant world, an evening of glitz and glamour when the industry honors its best. But this month the James Beard Foundation called off the 2020 awards, calling it “an unprecedented decision in the Awards’ 30-year history.” The traditional awards ceremony has also been canceled for 2021.
“The uncertainty of this time for our industry is already a hard reality,” said James Beard Foundation CEO Clare Reichenbach.
