For about four hours yesterday, authorities shut down San Diego International Airport to all incoming planes due to a sniper incident on the ground below. Could something similar happen elsewhere?
Although there were no reports that the sniper was shooting at planes, the incident occurred close enough to the landing path of Lindbergh Field, as the airport is also known, that the Federal Aviation Administration, in consultation with the San Diego Police Department, took the precaution of suspending incoming flights. Outgoing traffic was also suspended for a shorter time.
