There are dozens of reasons to dine at the Lazy Ox Canteen in Downtown LA, of which the above burger was only the easiest to photograph. They have a menu, but that only tells part of the story, and you really need to readh the chalkboard for the full picture. Ricotta fritters came with basil aioli, braised beef paleron (pot roast) with cream of wheat, kumquats and red wine. Even my vegan friend was thrilled with caramelized cauliflower in garlic, grilled cabbage with chimichurri, broccoli leaves with chile. With restaurants this good Downtown, some of my Westside standbys may have to step their game.
